Alex Burghart is currently the Member of Parliament for Brentwood and Ongar. He is also a scholar of the early medieval period and holds a PhD from King’s College, London. His thesis investigated the kingdom of Mercia from the early eighth to the early tenth centuries.

Tom Holland is an award-winning historian and broadcaster, and co-host of The Rest is History podcast. He has written many books about various periods of history, including the early medieval period. Among others, he is the author of Dominion, Persian Fire, Millennium, Pax, and of a biography of Æthelstan for the Penguin Monarchs Series.

Simon Keynes is Elrington and Bosworth Professor Emeritus of Anglo-Saxon at the University of Cambridge. He has written a number of highly influential books and articles about early medieval England, including numerous pieces about Æthelstan himself.

Michael Wood is an historian and broadcaster whose BBC series In Search of the Dark Ages and The Story of England brought the early medieval period to wider attention. He has written many books about the histories of different places and periods. Examples include, In Search of the Dark Ages; In Search of the Trojan War; In the Footsteps of Alexander; and The Story of England. He has published numerous articles about Æthelstan and early English history,

David Woodman is Professor of History at Robinson College, Cambridge University. He has written numerous books and articles about British history of the eighth to twelfth centuries. In 2025 he published a biography of Æthelstan for Princeton University Press.
